Skin on skin with dad after home birth

Skin to skin with dad

May 13, 2023

We love it in our household

It’s not just a way for mum and baby to bond, it’s also a great way for partners to connect with little ones too. This floods them with dopamine and oxytocin – the wonderful love – hormone and helps them begin their bond and relationship with babe too.

Research has also shown skin-to-skin helps to develop more caring behaviour in dad and also a more sensitive approach to parenting. And it has been shown to decrease cortisol levels, great for any anxious partners worried about being a parent for the first time.

The temptations might be that partners pick up more the slack and get busy while mum recovers and bonds with baby. But it’s also super important for them to slow down, be present and have time to connect too.
